Here’s a way to send a gift that’s free.

On Facebook, Redbox provides a Mother’s Day offer for free one-day movie rentals May 13.

The Facebook page offers the opportunity to send free electronic greeting cards that include a promo code for free DVD rentals from a Redbox kiosk. An app installation may be required.

The e-cards may be sent to moms, friends and other relatives — as long as they’re on Facebook. The promo code may only be used once, and is only valid May 13.

The deal, which is similar to an offer from other restaurants, is designed as an incentive for occasions such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduations.

The offers are available to June 17.

Generally, restaurant bonus cards are not valid on the day of purchase. Other restaurants offering $10 bonus cards with purchase of gift cards include Brio and Carrabba’s.
