The National Park Service is offering an incentive to explore national parks on August 25.  In honor of the National Park Service’s 97th birthday, all national parks will offer free admissions.  In the First Coast area, that includes Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia, the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve and Fort Caroline National Memorial in Jacksonville, the Castillos de San Marcos National Monument and the Fort Matanzas National Monument in Saint Augustine.  For hours and directions, check out the Park Service site, www.nps.gov.

beerPete’s Bar in Neptune Beach–which was issued Duval County’s first liquor license after the repeal of Prohibition–is celebrating its 80th birthday on April 27.  There’s no cover charge to come by and party with your neighbors and the Pete’s crew.  There will be drink specials, live entertainment and door prizes from 2 p.m. until closing time Saturday.

Every Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m., children ages 5 to 10 can explore the galleries or gardens and experiment with a different art process. No pre-registration, but do arrive early as class size is limited. The cost is $5.  In addition, Tuesday evening from 4 to 9 p.m. is free admission time at the museum.  The discount is $10 off regular admission.

Get into the Museum of Science and History (MOSH) free Saturday, February 2 and enjoy the annual Water Education Festival sponsored by the St. Johns Riverkeeper, the City of Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board and MOSH.  Check out interactive displays and presentations, as well as regular exhibits. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and free admission goes on until 4 p.m.

Today, September 29, is Museum Day Live, an annual event sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine.  Get two free passes to Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History (MOSH), good from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, by going to www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday. There will be plenty of special activities planned, including Harmonious MOSH, a collaboration with the Cathedral Arts Project, allowing guests to make their own musical instruments.  Get more info at www.themosh.org.
