It’s early release Wednesday (September 19) and the West Regional Branch of the Jacksonville Public Library is offering something to entertain elementary schoolers. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., kids can make a craft item with materials and direction from library staffers. It’s free and children of all ages are welcome.

The event is from noon to 4 p.m. and includes storytelling, readings, art activities, a scavenger hunt and book signings. More than 30 children’s authors, including artist and writer Rick Cannizzaro will be on hand. Musician and storyteller Ajamu Mutima also will be performing.

Sample Turkish foods, enjoy Turkish music and dancing, and peruse Turkish arts and crafts at the Jacksonville Turkish Festival, Sunday April 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Amity Turkish Cultural Center on Southside Boulevard. Activities for children will be part of the mix. Tickets are $2 per person.
